Remarks about the documentation Two different versions of the questionnaire have been fielded, testing differences in wording and answer categories of some questions. The questions differing between the two versions are: WO12, WO14, WO17, WO39 and ETHN. For these questions, separate variables have been created in the dataset, notified by „_A“ for version 1 and „_B“ for version 2. Additionally, some adaptions of the question formats to the two modes, web and paper, were necessary (for example filter instructions, or open answer instead of selection from a list for nationality).

Analysis unit
  • Individual
Universe Population resident in the German speaking part of Switzerland (and Lichtenstein) aged 18+
Sampling description 1500 addresses of individuals have been bought at AZ-Direct. The sample has been randomly drawn on individual basis, not on the household level, with fixed quotas of age and sex (following the figures StatPop 2012 of the Swiss Federal Statistical Office), in order to avoid this initial bias, usual in commercial addresses.
Mode of data collection
  • Self-administered questionnaire: Paper
  • Self-administered questionnaire: Web-based
Data collection instruments
  • Questionnaire

Weighting information No weights are included in the database. Analyses of the responses show however some biases, for example related to age. This is mainly due to the topic ‘work’, the active population feeling much more concerned, but also to the mode, web having been pushed as main mode and attracting more young people. Researchers are invited to develop their own weight relevant for their own research purposes.
Response rate 45.6%
Data completeness This dataset contains all the questions of the questionnaire.
Number of cases 662
