Abstract
The Swiss media are always interested in foreign countries, but little in their own foreign policy, which has not really existed up to now. The attempts of various post-war foreign ministers to strengthen Switzerland's international commitment, to integrate it more closely into global responsibility and solidarity, and to open economic and political doors, were received and explained only selectively by the media.
Against this background, the project asks about the importance of Swiss foreign policy in journalistic practice: What significance does foreign policy have in reporting, according to which concepts does this reporting take place and which sources of information are decisive in this work. The media representatives' assessment of the public relations work of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) is also of interest. In addition, socio-demographic data from journalists were collected. The results of the study show that the media have deficits in the presentation of Swiss foreign policy. In recent years, Swiss foreign policy has taken more advantage of the media and attracted more interest than in the past, but only one-sidedly, selectively and rather without concepts.

Erhebungsverfahren: Standardisierte schriftliche Befragung nach explorativen Gesprächen und Pretest.
Grundgesamtheit sind alle festangestellten Medienschaffenden, die bei tagesaktuellen Medien arbeiten und die (potentiell) für die aussenpolitische Berichterstattung zuständig sind (z.B. Inland- und Wirtschaftsredaktionen). Einbezogen sind Journalistinnen und Journalisten der SRG (Radio und TV), Printmedien, Agenturen sowie private elektronische Medien (Radio und TV).
Auswahlverfahren: Vollerhebung, rund 800 Personen.
Zeitpunkt der Erhebung: Die Erhebung wird Ende November 1997 durchgeführt.
